Liturgy as Lens for Postmodern Youth Ministry
Apr 30 2008, 3:23 PM EDT
OK, time for some DISCUSSION! I don;t know when I'm gonna get to the Notes this week, but when I do I'll be distributing a link to an article given to me a few weeks ago by Bishop Melczek, "Liturgy as Lens for Postmodern Youth Ministry." Here is the link: www.dcgary.org/youth/ym/articles/liturgyym.htm You can link to it directly from the Youth Ministry page of the website as well.

Since it came from our Shepherd, and since it pertains to YM, I'd like to hear your thoughts! I think the author makes some good points not only regarding youth and liturgy, but on youth culture as well.

Long article, but worth it. Reply with your thoughts!

Man...so true! I do see the first 4 points about postmodern youth as being very true! Looking for personal experience, authenticity vs. relevance, authentic stories, and personal, spiritual experiences. I have many youth (my own daughters as well) tell me that much of the connect they need, they do get through Protestant churches that they have visited with friends. The comments about adoration are also evident in our experiences at CYX. I applaud the Bishop for passing this on, but how can we as youth ministry leaders encourage our pastors, and church leaders to embrace this? Is there some sort of forum that we as youth ministers can sit with parish priests and just open up to our struggles and they can open up about theirs, so that we can work together for our youth! Will priest come? Will youth leaders come? This document is a greater starter point. Thanks Kevin for sharing...Thanks Bishop Melczek for passing this on, and for your commitment to youth and youth ministry! Do you find this valuable?

Do you see this as something that can be presented to a Liturgy Group at our parish? I have a meeting tonight, and thought this might be a great article for discussion.
